Are the ruins worth seeing here? How is the snorkeling in Costa Maya? Trying to decide which of the 2 we want to do... we are avid snorklers and love the water...but don't want to miss the ruins if they are worthwhile. Any suggestions? Please help. Thanks!
My wife and I did the Kohunlich ruins and really enjoyed them. We travelled by car with a driver who made the trip in much less time than the bus plus he took us on a small side tour of a village where there was a Spanish fortress. To do this trip you have to allow for at least 6 hours due to distances involved.
When we were in Costa Maya Dec 04, we did the Chacchoben Ruins tour thru Carnival. It was also very interesting. I wanted to do the one that beerseller did, but time did not permit. I can tell you though, that moderate activity level was a real stretch of the imagination. Also, be sure to take plenty of water as it was very hot on our tour.
What do you mean by moderate level of activity was a real stretch of the imagination? Was it strenuous or are you joking that it was not very strenuous? Just wondering.
I will admit to being out of shape, and have problems with my knees. But the steps to climb to some of the restored temples (not on the buildings) was a bit much for short legs like I have. Also, there is almost no place to sit down during the entire tour and I was throughly pooped by the time we got back on the bus. THen that night at dinner, after sitting thru the meal, my knees would hardly function to get me up out of my chair. But I did enjoy the tour while I was doing it.
