Has anyone ever rented a scooter to get around in Nassau or Key West? I'm just wondering if it is a good way to get around and if it is safe (for example, will someone steal your scooter if you park it on the beach, etc)

We have rented scooters in Key West and had a great time with them! You do have to use extreme caution on the scooters downtown. If you do this, be sure and rent a scooter for each person...do not try "doubling" because of sudden starts and stops. We have also rented the "golf-cart-looking cars" which worked great for 4 people, but the scooters were more fun and easier to find places to park. Just be careful and you will have a great time with either. Have not rented anything in Nassau, only used the local cabs, which incidentally drive like total maniacs.
