My wife and I will be in Miami in August and are thinking about taking a four day cruise on either Carnival or RCCL. The cruise out of Miami on Carnival goes to Key West and Calica and the RCCL out of Ft. Lauderdale goes to Key West and Cozemel. My questions are which cruise ship overall is better and why, is it better to wait until the last minute or book now and can one take the ferry to Cozemel from Calica and have enough time to see the sites?
Any additional insight would be greatly appreciated.
You should really think about doing a four day cruise that includes a private Island. R.C. has one that go to COCO CAY - I island is great we are going in August 28-Sept 1 - This will be our 3rd time to Coco Cay. (I would take Coco Cay over Cozumel any day) We have been to Cozumel twice and never care to go back. Try to get the most out of your for days.
The Enchantment was stretched and is said to be one of the best. All the reviews are great. I have booked a 5 day for 9/25. It also goes to Coco Cay. The short day Carnival ships from Miami are a little more worn. Hope this helps. Daniel
Hi, Craig! I worked on the Imagination for 6 months and I've been to Cozumel, Key West and Calica. I enjoyed all of those ports. Cozumel is best known for its shopping and restaurants. La Choza, pronounced just like it looks, is one of those restaurants that is outstanding. Also, be sure to check out the mini golf in the downtown section. For beaches, check out Paradise Island. Calica, pronounced ka-lee'-ka, was a great port; great restaurants and great prices for the amount you get. The beach was just as nice with excellent service from the Mexican waiters. I can say the same for Key West as well. To inform you, Craig, I have been with Carnival for 3 years and have worked on 4 ships. I was a karaoke host, so I was one of the lucky crew members to be able to get off the ship to venture. I thoroughly enjoyed all of these ports. Good luck! p.s. I don't know why they have under my name 'new cruiser'. Don't let that fool you.

"New Cruiser" just refers to the number of posts you have made on all of cruise-chat. With your next post, you'll become as "cruiser." At 25 posts, you'll become a "serious cruiser," etc.
We just got back(June 15 2006) from Enchantment, and have sailed the Disney Wonder in the past. I was a little nervous sailing on anything other than Disney. We have 2 kids, 14 and 17, and Enchantment was all we had hoped for and more. So much going on all the time, very clean, and the food was wonderful, everywhere we ate, no matter what time of day. If you do ENchantment, DO NOT MISS CHOPS! Highly recommend this ship, and we personally hope to sail on her again some day!
Sailed on the Enchantment in Dec. 2005-She is a wonderful ship- Cozumel at that time was just beginning to recover from the hurricanes of last season- it appears to have done a lot of reconstruction from the latest travel photos I have seen-I personally would wait another year before going into Cozumel again!
