Well, you know the word "tangent" comes from the Latin term "tangens" which means... touching.
P.S. The musical definition of "tangent" is an upright pin in a keyboard instrument. hmmm
Dr. L., your depth of knowledge is truly astounding. If I asked 100 musicians what a "tangent" was, 99 would say it is "going off on someone or something". I know only because I played harpsichord and also had to raplace many "tangents"on my Fender Rhodes piano.
But as Ken says, not nearly as interesting as your Latin reference.
