Beaches in Nassau

During out stay in Nassau, I want to head to the beach, however I don't want to pay for one of the excursions that takes you to the beach for an hour or two.

Does anyone know of any spots we could hit?

Take a taxi or water taxi over to Paradise Island. There is a free, very clean public beach next to the Atlantis. You can rent chairs, jet skiis, etc. We went to the beach about 4:00 and there were a few other families still there, the vendors were begging for business so my son got to jet ski for $20, it started out to be $50.00. It was very peaceful and relaxing.

Some people on our cruise swam at the Nassau beach near the port and said the sand was dirty (sticks, glass, etc).

Does the water taxi run often? - is there a fee for this. How do you get to the water taix. Is the beach very large? We will be in Nassau for about 16 hours.

The water taxi is $3 per person one way. It boards by the dock. The driver will usually tell you a little bit of history behind Paradise Island, some of the celebrities who have homes there, etc.

A land taxi is $4 per peson. When you get off the boat, there will be a lot ot taxi drivers looking for passengers. They have a set rate, so it should be $4 per person no matter which driver you go with.

The beach is big. Most of the families we talked to went to the Paradise Island Beach during the day. We went to the zoo and shopped during the day and went to the beach later in the afternoon. It was not crowded at that time.
