I think we paid around $24 per couple. The taxi vans are just as you get off the tender. We told him we just wanted the four of us in the van. We didn't want to be packed in and waiting for other people.
I've never understood the attraction of Hell on Grand Cayman. A t-shirt shop, a post office, a small rock formation, all next door to a seedy looking nightclub. We've somehow managed to stop there many times, and on the last two visits I stayed on the van. I don't want to go to Hell again!
I agree with all of you that after I visit the town of hell I will wonder why I did. However, if I don't I will always wonder what I missed. Thank you for you help!
I guess I have a couple more questions. When you get a taxi do you just tell them the places you would like to visit and they take you? In other words, if we just tell them we would like to go to the town of hell and the rum cake factory they will do that or should we tell them we would like to see the sights, including the town of hell and the rum cake factory. Sorry, if I am going on and on, I just want to make sure we get the most out of our taxi trip! Thank you!
They all have a set list of stops that they will try to get you to do, most holding up signs with "Hell, Turtle Farm, Governor's House" or whatever. But if you get a smaller cab (most are minivans) you can certainly tell the driver which stops you want. Just get a set price before you start.
Taxi prices are usually negotable in a lot of these types of ports. We did the submarine thing- wouldn't recommend it. The water was to rough for the people who had booked the stingray excursion so they didn't get to do it.
