Hello! We are making our first trip the the Bahamas in Aug of 09 on the glory. I have always booked my excursions with carnival and I think this time (our 4th cruise) I would like to try out using a third party.
Has anyone gone without a tour? Are you able to just catch a taxi there? Are there admission fees?
If anyone has used an outside vendor to tour the Atlantis resort please send me the info. I think this would be a good time to try something on our own.

Yes, you can just catch a taxi over to Atlantis. You can walk through the casino and
see a portion of the aquarium. If you want to see all the aquarium and use the water park then there is admission. They also have a dolphin experience in one section of the resort now. This will give you more information.

Hi we caught a little water taxi / ferry across to the Atlantis and then paid for a tour when we got there. The water taxi was way too crowded and we therefore caught a cab back which was a much better option - no fear we were going to drown! Once you get to the Atlantis resort it is very easy to organise a tour etc to suit your needs and the tour groups are much smaller than if you book from the cruise ship (we were in a group of 5 yet the people from the ship had to go in groups of 20+). To be honest it was all a bit too commercial for me but the aquarium was good fun to see. Enjoy your trip

As we've said countless times on the forum, do not use the water taxi in Nassau.

Cookies2Go 01-20-2009 02:23 PM're making me nervous. I was thinking about booking the Atlantis tour through RCI on our upcoming cruise, but in the description it says that the transportation used are water taxis! What should I do?

Nothing says you have to use the water taxi. Take a cab and you'll probably beat the water taxi.

You can do this on your own for cheaper than what the cruise line charges. They want $165 per person. Atlantis will sell you a pass for $105. Sure, you have to buy your lunch and take a cab but that isn't going to approach the $60 per person difference unless you are really hungry.

There is also Discover Atlantis Tour. The Adult prices are $35, 4-12 $25. I agree with Dave about just taking a taxi over and doing it your self. It's not very far, and you can see the hotel from the ship. There is also a free beach beside Atlantis.

The ticket booth inside the casino.

Thanks for the links. I will make sure to avoid the water taxi! I think a cab to the resort and arrange a tour when we get there is a good idea.
What do you think about their dolphin experience? Is it over priced because of where it is?

penny3333 01-22-2009 05:27 AM

The dolphin experience is expensive, anywhere. Just make sure to book the swim and not the encounter. The swim you actually get to interact with the dolphins, the encounter you basically get to watch them.
