Xel-ha questions

I have read some great things about Xel-ha. Im thinking it may be the place for our cruise in Febuary. Does anyone have any information about it? Im a little weary, beacuse it is not offered as an excursion.
Is it wise to go there even though we are not booking through the ship. What would be a reasonable amount to pay a taxi to 4 adults there?

Xel-ha is beautiful and the snorkeling is fantastic. Are you sure it's not offered along with the Tulum ruins? We did our excursion that way, it was 1/2 day at the ruins and 1/2 day at Xel-ha. You have to take a ferry to Xel-ha from Cozumel and then a cab over to Xel-ha unless you're buying an excursion on-line. I don't know about prices since we did ours through the ship. Best wishes.

Emily, we have been to Xel-Ha several times. We did it like Penny but found that you really don't get enough time at Xel-Ha if you go to Tulum too. I looked at your itenarary and I don't see Xel-Ha as an option through the ship. Not to worry though. Check out their webpage: http://www.xel-ha.com/ It will tell you everything you need to know. I have some pictures too. If I remember correctly, a taxi ride will cost you $10 to downtown (for everyone not just one person) so you can catch the ferry. Just make sure you keep up with time as the ship will not wait for you. Enjoy your cruise!

Like Penny we did the Tulum Ruins/ Xel Ha tour, very hectic and we certainly wish we had much more time in Xel Ha than what was offered in our short time there. The snorkeling was the best I've ever seen. It was raining very heavily and the seas not clear. Xel Ha is in a protected harbor though and the visiblity was still great. It must be even better when it's not rainy like that. If you can simply get a cab there, it will be a long trip with the ferry over to the mainland and the long cab ride but it certainly will be worth it. Have a great time and write a post when you get back!
