Champagne snorkel Dominica

Has anyone done the champagne snorkel independently? I'm trying to keep expenses down and wonder if I can do it cheaper on my own rather than with ship's excursion. Would welcome any help. I leave next Friday 13 April for Sea Princess. Thanks, Jan.

We did it from the beach on our own the first time we went. I DO NOT recommend doing it that way at all. The beach is nothing like a beach we're used to and there are some large boulders when you're trying to get in and out of the water that hurt when the waves slam you against them. If you've found a sail/snorkel excursion, that's the way to go. We booked our second one through Princess and had a marvelous snorkel. It is an absolute MUST do snorkel/dive. Totally awesome.

I did the ship's tour several years ago and really liked it. We had guides that took us in a group to snorkel. One guy took me down to get a Sea Cucumber!

I agree with Penny. We hired a taxi driver to show us around the island. He took us to the beach to snorkel and we had to walk over towards the reef. It is very hard to walk on since it is not a sandy beach. It's all large rocks and boulders. There really is no place to sit on the beach. You're really better off trying to find a catamaran sailing to the reef. You would just be in the water and not have to be near the shore at all.
