Can any one tell me the cheapest islands for cigarettes and alcohol and the limits that are allowed. We are going on the Serenade of the seas jan 14,06,any advise?
Depends what your looking for. I always buy Kahlua in Cozumel 2-bottles. I think the last time I bought it for $12.75 liter. I got it once in Ensenada cheaper than that. St Thomas is US Territory so you can bring back 5 bottles. St Maarten is slightly cheaper than St Thomas but only allowed 2 bottles. Even if you pay a little duty for going over it usually is still a deal. They should also tell you on the ship in the port talks what you are allowed.
I don't smoke so I wasn't paying real close attention but I seem to remember one carton of cigarettes was the limit. They will tell you on the ship though.
As far as the alcohol goes if you bring back any over the limit they will just charge you duty on it. The duty is usually not that much, something like $1 or $2 per bottle.
I brought some cigarettes for my father from St. Maarten and we payed about 12 $ per 10 packs, so really cheap. We are allowed to bring 200 cigarettes per person to germany. I think, you have the same quantity for the US.
But sorry, no alcohol, however saw many people buying alcohol on board.
