Tulum Ruins Question

Sorry I have so many questions, but this is my first cruise and it's all I think about!

Anyway, our ship ports at Calica on Day 3 and we're wanting to take the Tulum Ruins excursion. On Carnival's excursion list, it has a Mayan ruins of Tulum and a Tulum express. They are both 5 hours in length and appear to be basically the same thing. Does anyone know what the difference in these 2 excursions are?

Ask all the questions you want, that's why we are here! We did the Tulum Ruins tour when we were on a Carnival cruise a few years back & it also took us to Xel-Ha. To me, you don't get enough time in Xel-Ha when you do this tour. Tulum Ruins are wonderful & a historic lesson everyone should have. If you need to, call the cruise line & ask what the difference is..

How do I go about talking to someone with the cruise line about an excursion. I wanted to book the excursion before the trip rather than waiting until we boarded.

We did the Tulum Ruins tour off the Triumph about 3 years ago. We had a great tour guide, Jose, who was a Mayan descendant. He reminded us that the Mayans were the inventors of modern day underwear. I didn't know that.

I contacted Carnival about the 2 Tulum excursions and was told they are the exact same tour but due to the large tour demand, it was offered by 2 different tour operators with their own pricing and departure times.

If you go to Tulum, get the bull-frog sunscreen that has insect repellant in it. While you are waiting out front for your tour to start you may be visited by some little biting creatures...

Thanks AllyGirl for the tip. Can I buy the sunscreen/repellant locally before I take the trip? I've never heard of the sunscreen/repellant combo.

Yes you can find it in any CVS or Walgreens. I'm sure Walmart & stores like that carry it as well. It comes in a green bottle & is called Bull Frog. It is deet free & spf 30. It's been out for a few years now. Most people are looking for just sunscreen & overlook the Bull Frog.
