best thing to do in Nassau

The Atlantis is a $4.00 cab ride and a cheap way to spend a few hours...plus there is a casino there if you want to gamble. Then there is the shopping...LOTS of it...Enjoy...

and normal staff. When we went to Atlantis it seemed like a normal hotel. Very nice. I would suggest it too unless you book an excursion. Going off on your own will disappoint you.

We just got back (4/20), and like everyone else, I highly recommend Paradise Island in Nassau, with a tour of Atlantis on your own. But we booked the dolphin swim at Blue Lagoon on our own, and it was amazing!!! Would highly recommend it, but you need to book as early as possible. I booked last month, and it was a miracle that they had just gotten a cancellation. I was told that you need to book at least 4 - 6 months in advance. Not much to see in Nassau - we booked a taxi to take us around the town, and then he dropped us off at Atlantis on Paradise Island. We walked around the hotel, which is amazing. We had lunch at one of their outdoor Café (4 people, 4 pieces of pizza and sodas was $45.00). Then it was a very short walk to the pier where we were picked up by boat and taken to Blue Lagoon.

Just wanted to add to answer a question posed. The beach beside Atlantis is free. It is called Cabbage Beach

I still recommend first timers to go to Blue Lagoon and see it.

My husband and I didn't care for Nassau to much. Coming off the ship, the locals are trying to put braclets on your wrist, for you to buy. And then on the way back from Atlantis, we stopped off at the straw market and the locals were all over you. When my husband changed his mind about purchasing some cigars the guy asked him if he wanted to buy some type of drug and my husband said no thanks and started to walk off..the guy told him to watch his back.
Atlantis is definately worth the trip. If you have difficulty walking for a good distance then don't take the water taxi.

How do you get to Blue Lagoon? Is that an excursion?

I see the dolphin encounter at blue lagoon but don't see anything other that that listed as an excusion on my carnival trip.

Amanda, I just checked and see what you mean. They use to offer it as a beach trip with lunch. Then if you wanted to do the dolphins you could pay the extra on the island.

OK- New info., I just found out the island has been closed due to storm damage, except the Dolphin Encounter..sorry. I emailed a tour operator I know down there, if I hear back I will post back.
