Hey, we're going to have a stop in Nassau - we'll only be there from 8:30 - 2:00 on a Sunday. We've never been there, but I'm not sure about any of the excursions the ship offers. What is the best thing for us to do for a great island experience? We're open to doing something on our own or booking something.
I'd love to go to Love Beach, but I can't find anything about transportation there - can we take a Jitney? If so, what number?
I agree with penny. Atlantis for the beach is a great choice. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Bahamas and the straw market in general, but Atlantis is beautiful and classy. Have fun.
It is worthwhile to visit Atlantis. if you like to party, I think it is the "yellow bird" party boat that is a lot of fun. Other than that, its a good time to get back to the ship early to enjoy a quiet pool deck!

We just returned from Nassau and had no desire to really be there. We crewed and America's cup yacht (we are 46, our girls are 19 and 12) and had a blast. I would do this again. You WILL get WET.

Initially, when I first saw this post and read the thread starter... best thing to do in Nassau, I was almost tempted to write, Stay on the Ship. But, I didn't. You have to find the good in everything, even the Bahamas, right? LOL.
I have been to the Bahamas and like it alot. One reason is because Nassau does not appear to be as economically challenged as many of the other Ports of call. IMO it is far easier to enjoy the "touristy" stuff without fear, harassment or guilt. If you stay on the the "beaten path", it is easy to avoid any problems.
I highly recommend the Paradise Island and the Atlantis Aquarium tour. It is well worth it and there is a beach when the tour is over. Part of the beach closest to the Atlantis is so-called private but just down the sand a piece is the same beach but for the public.
Anyway, there are ferries, cabs, vans, horse & buggies right at the ships' terminal that will take you anywhere you want to go and will come back to pick you up if you want.
I cruz solo and have gone off alone in Nassau and have never had a problem. (Except the occasional cabby that may try to flirt -- but I have found them to be harmless and just part of the day's experiences.) I tend to wander around and have never felt threatened or unsafe.

We just got back- our second trip. We didn't do much this time- last time we took a tour of the island, went to Atlantis, and ended the day at a beach and it was a nice day. This time we booked snorkeling and dolphins. The snorkeling was cancelled due to the weather but my husg\band and daughter still got to do the dolphins- which they loved. My sons and I went to the straw market and shopped.not impressed. We returned early to the ship and the rain started up again and never went back when hubb returned like planned. I was shocked at how many more rude drug type comments we got...people asking my 17 year old son if he wanted various items. I heard several other people that night with the same comments.
I preferred, and felt safer, on CocoCay.
