Nassau - Tours on our own?

We like to hire a cab to give us island tours, or book with a tour company on our own.
Does anyone have any suggestions in this regard for Nassau. In particular, we like tours to see the island, learn it's history, about its people, etc.

We are not interested in snorkeling or beach visits. Thanks! (Going in February)

That kind of excursion can easily be negotiated at the pier once you arrive in Nassau - there will be tons of offers.
