Looking at the posts from this site, it seemed like the BATHs would be a must if stopped at Tortola. Would be going on Ccarnival, Liberty in Aug for East Caribbean. The ship stop at Tortal from 7:00am to 3:30pm.. would that be enough for the Baths? If so, can someone give more detail about the ferry, cab fee ? and where to get on the ferry .. Thank a lot...
i went on the baths excursion in may of 06. it was by far one of the most fabulous things i have ever done. you board a ferry boat on the pier. it takes about 45 minutes to get to virgin gorda. it is a nice boat ride though. you get to the island and are taken by open taxi to the baths. the driver will give you some history facts along the way. when you arrive at the baths you walk down a steep terrain for about 1/4 mile or ten minute walk. once at the beach area you have the option to just go to the beach area or travel through some caves and uneven terrain to get to the grottos. we chose the adventure. you will need some water shoes or leave your sneakers on because it is alot of climbing. the water is very deep (20ft) at times but you can swim to a rock and hang out on it. in order to get back to the beach area thgere is about a 1/4 mile swim. it is a little strenuousn but well worth it it if you can handle some physical exersion. after back on beach there is a bar and a gift shop at the top of the baths. you can sit here and just take in the beautiful view or have lunch or a cocktail. all in all not enough time but it was quite an experience unlike any that i have seen in the caribbean. make sure to bring water shoes and a waterproof camera. they do have lockers for stuff you dont want to bring with you on you adventure to the grottos b/c anything you bring WILL get wet. hope you enjoy!
thank you for the comment on my post. but what does "rate it" mean? i have been on this site for about six months now and that it the first time i had heard that. anyway, i think being rated is good so thank you. have you ever been to the baths?
