I am getting ready to cruise in July and was reading previously about cruisers taking supplies to other countries. I would like to know if anyone can give me the names or contacts of someone in Belize that we could take supplies to. I am not asking anyone online FOR donations- I just would like to know who to contact about TAKING donations to the Western Caribbean. Thanks!

I just did a Google search for "Belize Consulate". Try that. There are pleny of informational sites. You should be able to contact someone through the Consulate who can help you. Good luck.

If you travel off the beaten path in Belize do so in a group. In some areas, even that wouldn't be safe. Coordinate any such humanitarian assistance (I commend you for your compassion) with one of the charities (Unicef, Save the Children, etc.) already there or with a missions group from a church or simliar already there that can help you pull it off safely.

Bottom line, don't become a headline trying to do the right thing.

That would be a wonderful gesture and there are needs at most any port you will visit, not just Belize. Each area more than likely has an active Rotary Club, and Rotary International coordinates clean water, hunger, and illiteracy projects all over the world through local Rotary Clubs. Our club partners with a club in Honduras and we go over there every year and "adapt-a-village" by providing water and electricity infrastructure. Channeling any efforts thru Rotary will ensure everything gets to the right place per your intentions.

Like Neil said, just be careful where you go to deliver what you take. Our tour driver said he would not stop in Belize City because it was not safe.

Do it through something like Rotary, or Christian Children's fund or something along those lines. Your safety is a priority.

Thanks everyone who has responded. I am new to this chat thing and just figured out how to pull up your responses. You all have great ideas and advice and I will check on these ideas. I am sure some of the other areas could use help and I am not dead set that we would take supplies to just Belize. Thanks for your help!
