Public Beaches for snorkling in Grand Cayman???

We leave aboard the Conquest on the 8th of July. Last year in Grand Cayman we did the Stingray tour. This year, we want to just relax on the beach and snorkle. Can anyone recommend a public beach in GC that would be a good place for snorkling for adults and young kids?

Seven Mile Beach is a great spot for sunning and snorkeling in Grand Cayman.

To take it one step further, I googled "Public Beaches Grand Cayman" and many sites came up, including Rum Point Beach. Most are free beaches. I do know that Seven Mile is the beach most commonly used by tourists/cruisers. Not sure if you're looking for a more secluded beach for your family. You should be able to find exactly what you have in mind once you do a google search. Good luck.

Seven Mile Beach is a beautiful beach. Crystal clear water and smooth sand. The snorkeling is just so-so because it is just sand without any fish attractors. When you anchor look over and you will see a building with a Diver Down flag. It is Abanks, it is just a short walk from the tender pier. They have a walk down place to snorkel with lots of fish. It is free, they do charge for chairs though. The restaurant has great fritters.

I usually go to Seven Mile then to Abanks to snorkel. Has a great view of the ship, and is close to the tenders as I said so you can stay until you have to leave. Often Grand Cayman is a short port day.

Has anyone been to Rum Point Beach? How was the beach and snorkeling and the restaurant/bar there? We were thinking of renting a car and driving there. Not sure how long the drive would take. Has anyone done this or taken a taxi there (how much did the taxi cost)? Thanks

I agree with IslandCruz that 7 Mile Beach is beautiful but not a snorkeling beach. We tried it last Jan. and were disappointed in the snorkeling. We're going back next Jan. and will try Abanks. Though it would be nice to have pretty fish and coral, but if I had to choose I'd take the pretty fish. I've been spoiled by living in the Philippines. These days I take what I can get.
