Thanks for posting this, CruiseDad. Seems like a lot of different papers/websites are carrying this message. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the cruise lines pull the port. It's a total travesty that a couple of selfish individuals ruin it for an entire island. Nassau's economic basis is tourism, without that, the island cannot survive.

I believe its a bit more than just a couple of individuals that have made the cruise lines stop excursions to Nassau. There are many instances of crime happening in Nassau and I've read police think this may increase.If it was just about armed robberies/muggings happening in the bad areas then you could avoid them but I believe they are happening in tourist areas as well.A man was robbed recently just a short way from the cruise port.
Ok robberies/muggings can happen any where in the world but there seems to be a big increase here and I would think very carefully as to where I'd go & whether it was worth it, before I decided to get off a ship in Nassau.

You're right jack2007, but it's a very small minority of locals taking this approach. There are so many more that made their money honestly. Well, ok, they over charge for lots of things and most of it is junk, but they're not holding a gun to your head. When we were there last July, I believe our tour guide said the unemployment rate was around 30%. They could put lots of their people to work keeping the island as clean as it once was, but their government has no money either. Globally, people need to be put back to work. I pray this will turn around and soon, but it's no reason to start holding machine guns to people's heads to rob them.
