Excursions - Progresso and Cozumel ?

This will be cruise # 3 and I've convinced some first time cruisers to go with us. Any recommendations on shore excursions in these two ports would be greatly appreciated !

Hi Firefighter.
Ages and health will determine what some are capable of doing. Wife and I are 53 and we don't opt for the adventurous excurions - we like to relax. We went to see the Dzibilchaltun Ruins at Progreso because it gave us a really good taste of the Mayan culture without taking up the entire day. The ruins are not huge, but still very interesting, and the entire excursion lasted about 4.5 hours. That left plenty of leisure time to stroll around town or do shopping. We love the beach day on our own at Cozumel. We really like taking a taxi to the beach and relaxing, swimming some, eating on the beach and people watching. We have gone to Paradise Beach twice(great food and drink) and thoroughly enjoyed both times. Chankanaab Park is also highly rated. There are so many excursions to choose from, it might be hard to pick one...so you will have to book another cruise later to do something different!

Hi Firefight, congratulations on your up-coming cruise and on introducing others to the fantastic experience. If you'll use your "find" feature in the upper left hand corner and type in your ports it will pull up all the posts made. Then you could scan through them and see if anything is interesting to you. We love snorkeling and do that in most every port we visit. In Cozumel we've snorkeled at Chankanaab Park, Xel-ha (main land), Cozumel Beach Club, and Paradise (not much there). We did the Tulum Xel-ha excursion which takes up most of the day. The ruins were great and the snorkeling at Xel-ha was fantastic. If you don't want to spend the entire day on an excursion, stick to Chankanaab or Paradise. Progresso you could do the ruins and then head to the beach or shopping.
