What is the best beginner dive excursion in Cozumel? My huband is resort certified only but would love to do a dive there. Any suggestions on companies and such?

Don't know the name of the company. Me and my 12 year old daughter did a first timer dive there last October. We went through the cruise line, so I don't know why I even replied to this because I'm useless to you... sorry.

But, I guess I can offer that I would feel more comfortable doing a beginner dive through the cruise tours than picking a company at random and doing it on your own. At least the cruise line would have worked with them in the past and you have less chance of coming across a fly by night place.

Chankanaab Park use to have a non-certified beach dive as well on Cozumel. It was pre-Wilma though.

Penny3333 is a Diver, maybe she will see this.

I loved Xel-ha very much, but we did a snorkel there and not a dive. I also enjoyed Chankanaab Park, but that was pre-hurricane. Wise2u said that most of the statues and coral were destroyed in the hurricane. Jim is quite correct. I would not do any excursion for a first time dive on my own. I have seen some of the equipment on local tours and didn't want to try it. However, there are many reputable companies that are not connected to the cruise lines. If it is his first, stick with the ship. Have a great time!
