Actually, this is our 8th cruise, but the first one to the Southern Caribbean. We are excited about all of the new ports of call. Its nice to have so many, but like you said, we will be very busy for the first 3 days. We are flying form St Louis, Mo and the earliest flight gets to San Juna around 4:00 p.m. Did you all go down a day early? Where did you stay? How is the condition of the ship? We were also told that they have self serve ice machines and self serve laundry facilities? Is that the case? Thats a shame about that bridge, that was going to be one of our sites to see. Thanks for all of your help and info.
We went down a day early to San Juan and stayed at the Embassy Suites near the airport. The hotel had a beautiful swimming area with waterfall in a walled off area. I'd recommend them.
I don't know about the self-serve laundry or ice we never used them. The cabin steward always filled our ice bucket each morning and evening.
Condition of the ship was very, very good, not phenomenal or new. A lot of burnt out light bulbs, noticeable wear and tear in the cabins but nothing to prevent a very enjoyable cruise.
We have also done the destiny and are doing it again. We were supposed to do the valor but the itinerary was switched because of the hurricane. We have done three cruises and the destiny is our favorite. All the stops are great. I would recommend flying in a day early. We stayed at the wyndham condado and it was fabulous. The destiny had a great menu and so much to do. Enjoy.
I don't know if y'all enjoy snorkeling, but the Champagne Beach snorkel is awesome. You snorkel over volcano vents and can actually feel the difference in the temperature of the water. Not only that, but the bubbles make the water look like Champagne. It is breath-taking. After our snorkel in Tortola we had one of the cab drivers take us around the island. He charged us $20 and took us to a restaurant where you could look out and see where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet. Then he took us to a beautiful beach and showed us where Jimmy Buffet wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise. Martinique is a nice island to do a land tour, we always snorkel, however. Grenada is the spice island and doing a tour of their rain forest is beautiful as well. Grand Anse beach is gorgeous and the spices are great-really fragrant. Antigua we're going to for the first time in October. There's supposed to be 365 beaches. We're going to do a snorkel and then see if we could get a taxi to do a short tour. Let me know when you get back from Antigua if you hear of any great snorkeling trips. Enjoy your cruise!!
