Hi JulieC, the island is Dominica, it is a beautiful natural island. If you want to do the most wonderful snorkel available in the Caribbean, do the Champagne Reef snorkel. Do it from a boat and not from shore (which you can do by yourself). The shore is NOT like any beach you've ever been to, there are bolders you have to walk on to get to the point. Please, do it through the ship or a company on-line, but don't do it on your own. We did it through Princess the first time and are doing it again through Princess next week. It is a wonderful snorkel over a volcano vent, the bubbles from the vent makes it look like you're in a glass of champagne. The sea life is abundant and colorful. Don't worry about not being able to swim, you basically float and kick your feet. There will be someone guiding the tour (if you go through the ship) that will be in the water with you. You are required to wear a snorkel vest (which is like a life preserver only a lot less bulky). However, salt water makes you bouyant anyway. If you are talking about Trafalga Falls, there are plenty of cabs waiting outside of the pier. They are identified by badges. Our first trip we went to Champagne reef on our own, our driver dropped us there and scheduled a time to pick us up to take us to the Emerald Pool/Trafalga Falls. He was prompt and we did make it to the pool/falls area and back to the ship on time. Do the snorkel through the ship, come back and grab a cab to your other destination, just be sure to be back on board on time. Give yourself enough time to account for a flat tire, traffic, an accident, something out of the ordinary because if you're not booked through the ship, they won't wait. Best wishes!
