How bad is freeport? My family is very much beach people and would be looking for a nice beach. We are doing a four day cruise in April-

Freeport and Nassau

Nassau, Keywest and Coco Cay.

Looking for advice on Freeport - We have been to the other ports before.

If it were my I'd go with the CocoCay choice. Freeport is a sorry excuse for a cruise port. It has a beach, but its not very good in my opinion. We vowed never to go to Freeport again. You get off the ship, get in a taxi to be charged $12 to get dropped off in the cruiseline owned shopping area /tourist trap.

Maybe there are some excursions, but nothing good if you are beach people.

CocoCay is a private island with plenty of beach activities.

The cruise lines ought to be embarrassed to offer Freeport as a stop. I would not be surprised to learn that they "had" to have ships stop there in order to grease the skids with the Bahamas officials when it comes to use of the other ports in Bahamaian waters (like Coco Cay, etc.).

Did you know that the cruise lines have to pay a tax to the Bahamas government for all the booze sold on the private islands? An officer told me that a few years ago when we stopped at Coco Cay on the Grandeur Of The Seas.

Across from the Lucaya Marketplace is a beach. (We had to cut thru a hotel to get out to it--a local told us to do that) We enjoyed the beach there, they have plenty of water activities or you can just sit & relax there. It only cost us $3 per person each way in the cab. It dropped us off right in the marketplace & they were lined up waiting there to take us back to the ship.
