Has anyone done this excursion and what were your thoughts? If you did this excursion, did you go with the ship's tour or did you take a taxi or some other form of transportation there? Does anyone know if you can take a taxi there? Thanks!

Xcaret is not actually in Cozumel. You have to take a ferry, about a 45 minute ride, over to Playa Del Carmen, and then take a taxi. The travel time there can take a while. You need a long time in the park if you want to see/do everything. Then remember the long way back.
The best cruises to take for visiting Xcaret are those which dock at Calica (the dock for Playa del Carmen). Why? Because Calica is right next door to Xcaret - really. As the crow flies it is maybe a half-mile. By bus it is more like 5 miles by the time you get there.

Dave, I know this is off topic and I am sorry. But I have not heard that saying for so long I had to comment. I remember my grandmother saying that once. Not often does one hear those great sayings anymore

Yes, I know what you mean. My mother often said it too...that Calica was right next door to Xcaret.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we are docking in Cozumel. It looks like a ship's excursion is the best route for this one!
If you want to go to Xcaret from Cozumel, the ONLY way I'd endorse it is to take the ship's tour. Trying to do it on your own would be foolhardy. What is it about Xcaret that interests you? Have you been there before?

Actually you are very fortunate to be docking in Cozumel! Docking in Calica would be unfortunate in my opinion.

Yes, Calica is really a dull place to be. I like Cozumel so much that I'd never consider going to the mainland for a tour. Cozumel has so much to offer and is just a great, fun place.
