We were thinking of going on this excursion in St. Thomas with our kids. Has anyone done it befor. Myself and the kids are a little scared. It says we go to 90 feet deep, Which is the part that has us a little uneasy. We love adventure, but want to know if it is well worth it. Very few places offer this as an excursion.
Go for it! The amazing thing in the Caribbean is that you can be looking down to 100' from the surface and it looks like it's 5'. The water is so crystal clear. I've been diving that deep before. I prefer sports diving (less than 50') because the colors are better. However, there are some amazing sites down there. I, personally, couldn't do the submarine because I'm extremely claustrophobic. But it does look like fun. I'm sure your children will love it.
I think I would probably prefer diving as well. But I'm not very good at diving and we would like to wait a year or so till our kids are older then we will go to diving school as a family, hopefully befor our next cruise in 2011. I'm scared of the submarine because someone else is in full control underwater. I'm a little concerned I might not get my daughter back on the ship, it took a while to convince my kids to go.
After a few hours on board, you'll probably have trouble getting your daughter off of the ship She will be in 7th heaven and having the time of her life. I have a hunch that your children will become addicted, just like the rest of us.
We have done the Atlantis there a few years back and enjoyed it.The one thing I found fascinating was at certain depths colors would disapppear. It was like at 70 feet the red in everyones shirt would vanish.Have a good time.
Poormom, our kids will be 10yrs and 12yrs old. They are deffinately tall enough. I was reading another post today and someone mentioned that they will no longer do this excursion starting May 30th, due to high overhead costs. I guess the company has been doing this excursion for 30 yrs. Makes me think that maybe I just should't bother, seing as how we sail just befor its final trips in st.Thomas.
