We are booking a Jan cruise to the Mexican Riviera for a fun family trip. 3 adults and 3 teengers. I am interested in hearing about anyone that has been in January and what to expect weather wise! Thanks, K

I have only been in a couple ports that are on some of the cruises to the Mexican Riveira and that was during a Panama Canal cruise. I was not on the Elation and not in Jan. We did stop in Cabo San Lucas and Acapulco.

If you are going to Cabo San Lucas you will be tendering in. We did a snorkel and catarmaran tour there. The snorkeling was nothing to brag about but the crew of the catarmaran made sure everyone had a good time. They took us out to see the rock formations that are seen in many postcards of Cabo. They cranked up the music and partied for the majority of the trip. They only had us snorkel for about 20 minutes. Their snorkel equipment was very poor quality.

Acapulco there was a big govt celebration going on when we were there so many things were not open. We did do a high speed boat ride on a river called Jetover boat tours. This was fun. Many of couse went to see the cliff divers. Acapulco is very beautiful at night when it is all lit up.

Sorry I can't be of more help than that.

Cruised the Elation this past January and the weather can be chilly when you are close to LA but beyond that, pretty good further south. PV never gets too cool but your last day at sea on the way to LA can be very chilly. Advice, take a light jacket or sweatshirt and you should be covered. Have fun.

As far as Cobo San Lucas was concerned, people that did snorkeling in mid-April complained about how cold the water was, and had they known that, wouldn't have done it. We stopped there on Spirit as part of Panama Canal cruise. You'll love Puerto Vallarta. Wonderful shops right at dockside, and very clean and beautiful city. Wouldn't mind living there. Acapulco is dirty, busy, and you take your life in your hands with the little blue and white cabs that will run over sidewalks and dividers, depending on the mood the drivers are in, and how fast they want to make money. This was our second time there, and our impressions didn't change. Maitzailan can be nice in spots, but just loaded with graffitti all over. For some reason, this surprised most of us on the ship, as it was the worse than any of us had seen. Have fun!

Hmmm.... There can be heavy swells in January so be aware of the possibility and get some motion sickness medicine from your doctor in advance if anyone in your group is affected by motion sickness. If there is a swell it will be the most noticeable on the return trip heading north up Baja into the swell direction.

The first and last day will be cool so plan accordingly but the rest of the trip will be wonderful weather. The Elation is a great ship for the kids and the itinerary is wonderful as well. Post any questions you may have about the ports.

Tom
