I just read someones review in Port Reviews. He said he went to the American Drug Store in Cozumel, purchased his prescription meds, and "thumbed his nose at the American Pharmaceutical Industry".
I was wondering if that is a good idea for everyone who uses Rx meds? Is it safe to use Rx meds from Mexico? Are they the same as the ones in the US? How about bringing them back home? Any hassles with US Customs?

I can't speak for Cozumel Frase, but when we lived in Las Cruces NM (which is rapidly becoming the Phoenix AZ of NM - LOTS of retirees) The senior groups sponsored bus trips to Juarez to buy RX meds - now I assume that, since both are in Mexico that the meds would be similar if not identical - but hey, I am no expert!
I know folks also go to Canada to buy meds as well - simply because the meds in the US are jacked up in price to cover R&D in the pharmaceuticals - and, some would argue, to line the pockets of pharmaceutical investors/executives

Good question- everyone I know gets their OTC meds in Canada and brings them over the border (5 minutes). This would include Nicorette and Claritin but also Tylenol with Codeine and Tussionex, two narcotics that you need a scrip for here.
Everytime we are in the US or the last time in Puerto Rico, we buy aspirine, because its so much cheaper than in germany.
Maybe they are selling as we call it here Generica in Mexico not the original medicine, but well with the same pharmaceutical ingredients. And thats much cheaper. But here in germany you can be sure, that this is not a fake medicine product. But can you be sure in Mexico?
I find that ironic that Asprin is more expensive in Germany. I believe aspirin originally came from Germany? Wasn't the Bayer pharmacy company long time ago, the first to develope aspirin and make it popular?
Anyway, I especially want to hear from someone who purchased medicines from this so called "American Drug Store" in Cozumel. I would like to hear how their expierience was and if they would reccomend others to purchase their medicine from this place. Maybe if the same person who wrote that article I read, could do a follow-up article?
I am not sure about all drugs but the antibiotics are identical. I had been on steroids before we boarded the ship and started getting what I know what strep throat. 2 of the kids had it before we left. I did not want to go to the infirmary so we got off the ship in cozumel I picked up ***********. It was identical to the Rx my daughter had at home.
We have ADHD kids and their meds even WITH insurance is $50 a month so I am going to take the Rx in April and see if they have the same meds in the pharmacy.
The pharmacy was right off the ship. I saw one in Progresso too but I did not go into it.

We have purchased RX drugs in Cozumel..there are quite a few pharmacys there. I have you can get most antibotics, blood pressure meds and most anything else and the prices are considerably less than in the USA. The meds are pretty much identical to what you get here, but..the ingredients on the package are written in spanish..so just make sure that you speak with a pharmacist, or take the original package or prescription with you.
We have never had a problem with any purchases we have made.
By the way you will read on the internet or are advised by US drs that the meds are not the same, I believe thats because the US drug companies don't want you to buy from other countries.
