St Thomas...danger?

I hear on MSN travel that st thomas is dangerous after dark. This worries me, We are there till 1am. ANyone seen or had a bad experiance?

Sadly since the hurricane devastation in St. Thomas the crime there has increased.
I too have heard about it not being "safe" at night - purse snatchings downtown. I certainly would not go alone at night.
My last few visits there were not late night however to have first hand experience.

hi,if concerned about St. Thomas after dark ,I would recommend ret. to ship & enjoy ship amenities.Enjoy your cruise.

Just returned from St.Thomas. I can't believe this island is still on cruise ports of call. It is a shame what happened to this small island. Just my opinion but if I had to do it over I would stay on the ship.

Huh, maybe I was just in a different St. Thomas...

I just got back and things were not "that" bad. I saw no reason for the ships to remove it from their ports of call.

I would see no reason to stop calling at St. Thomas either. A few ordinary "street smarts" will help in any port, whether St. Thomas, Miami or Amsterdam. I think some people act on vacation as though they were at Disney World, and the real world - no matter where you are - isn't quite like that!

The biggest danger most people face in St Thomas is not being able to control themselves when faced with so many "bargains"!

umn-what exactly is so bad about it? i mean did you get robbed or get lost or something?

what happen in st thomas. we are going there next saturday. we arrive at 9 am and have tours set up. Why is it bad?

We were in St. Thomas last August, and it was fine. We took an island tour and saw a lot of the island. The main shopping area was okay -- not as nice as St. Maarten, but still okay. Our table mates took a snorkeling excurion and loved it.

I think one has to be careful no matter where he/she goes these days. Pay attention to your surroundings, and you should be fine.
