Our MSC cruise in early December will stop at Tortola for a day. One excursion is to The Baths which is a fantastic looking beach with huge boulders (from the photos I have seen online). Is this place quite crowded on days the cruise ship or ships are at Roadtown, Tortola? Has anyone gone to the adjoining Spring Bay beach instead (similar scenery)?? Thanks for any comments.
Hi Sunflower. I have only been to Tortola once and took a driving tour around the island. That was in 2004 and from what I remember the dock only had room for 2 ships. I suppose one more ship could tender off shore but it is not high volume like St. Thomas. It is a much smaller port.
On my trip this December I am seriously considering a snorkel tour. Second choice would be to The Baths.
We arrive on a Sunday and the shops will be closed so a tour is needed.

Hi Sunflower. We've been to Tortola twice, and both times took a snorkeling tour. The first time we also had a cab take us around the island. We took catamarans over to Norman's Island to snorkel, both trips were very nice. The cab took us to a beach on the northwest side of the island (I believe the name is Cane Bay) that was beautiful. The Baths is on Virgin Gorda, we haven't taken that tour, but may when we visit in November. I've heard it is a very nice tour. I really enjoyed Tortola, it was a very clean and friendly island. The cab driver took us by the restaurant where Jimmy Buffet wrote Cheeseburger in Paradise. Guess this doesn't help much with your question, hopefully, someone else who has visited The Baths will answer. If not, maybe this might give you another alternative. Best wishes and have a wonderful cruise!
we have been to the Baths a couple years ago..it was awesome!! the beach is great and you can also go to the left of the beach area and walk through the boulders and get to another area where the snorkeling is fantastic!! We can't wait to go back.

Hi Sunflower,
How crowded The Baths is depends on the number of cruise ships in port. Go to Cruise Calendarand click on Ports in the left panel.. Search for Tortola and then enter the date you will be there.
If you are lucky, like we are, your ship will be the only one in port. Baths, here we come!

It used to be that you could tour other ships in port. That all went by the wayside after the Achille Lauro hijacking. With security even tighter now, you can hardly get back onto your own ship!
