Chankanaab Park Cozumel?

Hi i booked our first cruise for Sept. 8th '07 and was wondering if Chankanaab Park was a good excursion to take. I did not really see it offered other than as a 3 hr. treasure hunt in Carvinal's excursion list. Is it saft to taxi there on our own. I am worried as we are traveling with our 2 small children and well i guess i'm just the type of person to worry about everything like getting lost or missing the boat!

Please if anyone out there have done this on their own and would remend it please let me know. If not I will just stick to something else.

sassychic, it's perfectly safe and it's extremely beautiful. Our family has been going to Chankanaab National Park for 20 years. Our daughters were toddlers when they went for the first time.
I can't say enough great things about it. We always snorkel there. You can grab a cab at the pier. The taxi's run back and forth all day, so you shouldn't have any problems finding one.
We're so used to Cozumel that we always rent a car at the pier and go it ourselves to the Park. It's approx. 15 minutes from the ship. Nice thing is....it's a straight shot down the road so it's impossible to get lost getting there. You can follow the signs posted for the Park.

Keep in mind, they will close the Park off if there are high winds on that day. We've experienced that once before.

You will find food and beverage, showers, lockers, souvenirs, nature paths, lounge chairs (bring your towels from the ship), beach wait staff. It's pristine and I would highly recommend Chankanaab for the day.

Thank you so much, i think we may just do that for the day and when we get tired because my little girl is only 2, we can taxi back for nap time and then maybe do something else later in the day.

sassychic, Taxi should be no more than $10 each way. Some other posters here might know better. We always rent a vehicle and do Chankanaab and then tour the island.

Sassy, we just did the same excursion as A'ndrea suggested. Well almost. We booked a 3 snorkel stop on our own which included lunch. It was rather choppy with squalls that day, so we knew the boat ride back to the dock would be slow and rough. We opted for the taxi back so we could also have time to shop. As A'ndrea said, there are lots of taxi's waiting to take you back. I think the taxi ride was around $12 pp. but I could be wrong. After a few drinks on the beach, that part is a bit fuzzy.

I think it will depend on how many people are waiting for taxi's. When we went back, there was a line for taxi's. They were filling them up. I would hope they wouldn't charge for a 2 year old, but my girls are older, therefore, I never questioned the charge. Plus, I was feeling pretty good by that point anyways. Seems every picture I have of Chankanaab, I had a beer in front of me.

Wow, $12 pp hopefully they won't charge me for my 2 year old we are a family of 4. Anyway, guess I will find out and whatever the price as long as we get safely to and from and enjoy our day that's all that matters.
