We're going to cruise western caribbean this year.

Can anyone tell me details about the ports of call Labadee - Ocho Rios - Grand Cayman - Cozumel?

We want to do most things on our own.

Has anyone made tours or experiences on their own?

I am cruising on April 24 on this ship and labadee was on the itinerary but has been exchanged for Nassau because of the political problems.

Rene, We went to the western caribbean in 2001. We are going again on April 16th, 2004. The catamaran sail and snorkel in Cozumel is great. The crew was nice and very helpful. They showed us a great time. The snorkeling was great and there was plenty of fish to see. Then we went to a private island. We got free drinks while on the beach and on the boat after snorkeling. In Grand Cayman we went snorkleling with the sting rays at sting ray city. That was cool. We also went to Hell in Grand Cayman and it was a waste of time. Luckily we did it on our own and only lost the cab fare. Don't waste your your time there. Have a great time and enjoy!!!!!!!!

You have to go to Dunn's River Falls either on your own or with excursion when you are in Ocho Rios. It is beautiful. Bring water shoes.

In Cozumel I have not tried yet, but will when we go there is the Dune Buggy tour. You drive your own dune buggy through the streets to a deserted beach and snorkel and they cook lunch for you. We will try in January 2006 when we go on the Disney Magic again. cozumelhome.com I think is the site.

The western caribbean is great. However RCI is not sailing to Labadee right now. Too bad its a great port. The best thing we have done in Grand Cayman was renting a catamaran and sailed around for hours....right up along the ship....its great. If you don't know how to sail it they will take you out...make sure you hang on. Jamaica...there is so much to do....you can either buy the tour thru the cruise line or on your own. Dunns river falls is always fun...take some old sneakers with you....
Cozumel...we just beach it....thats it. Shopping is ok. We did take a jont over to Cancun for the day....that was a good time.

Hi Rene, We always try to things on our own that's part of the adventure ( just give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship) In Cozumel it is easy to just rent a jeep and drive around stop and swim when you want, shop, the ruins there are worth the trip had a wild pig run across our path while walking to each site. Grand Cayman has a bus system that easy to use will get you to Hell seven mile beach and remember the beaches are public, there are nice little walk ways in between the hotels and the snorkling is beautiful you can get a map of the dive/ snorkle site at Grand Cayman's site. The bus station is down from the library like 2 streets forward and 1 block left from where you tender in at Only been to Jamacia once, did Dune's Falls and A very nice garden falls tour that even had a nice aviary, Hope this is helful. No matter what you do you will have a blast.

ive never cruised the western caribbean, but have spent time in cozumel, and a jeep is the way to go. we actually did mopeds instead, but we're young and stupid. snorkle on the side of the island where the ship docks, almost anywhere is good, drive around the other side, it only takes 20-25 minutes or so. there are is restaurant at the tip of the island where you turn, not bad. then there are some great beaches, but more for swimming and sun, there are actually waves there. on the way back through to the other side there are mayan ruins, not as good as some others, but again, not bad. and then boom, you are back downtown

In Jamaica. be careful when you get off the ship, there are taxi drivers in the compound and they will come up to you and grab your arm or hand and lead you to their cabs, ask the police fir help to find a cab or if you want to walk around, let them help you out of the gate

Do your own thing...it is cheaper and better. Check out the port reviews for each port at www.portreviews.com they are awesome.
