We will be going on a cruise 2003 and are interested in the Grand Cayman Island Tour, but was wondering if anyone had taken this tour and how long they stop on the 7 mile beach, if you had plenty of time for pictures or was it rush-rush?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Which boat are you going on. Each ship has a different tour. I highly recommend you booking a tour on your own if you want to snorkle or see the stingrays. Go with Captain Marvins, they were so wonderful. I have told everyone about that company. They keep their tours down to under 25 people and if you book the early morning tour you get to the stingrays at a perfect time. As the day goes on, the stingrays get more used to the crowds and are not as responsive. When we arrived it was 9:30 and not crowded at all. When we left almost an hour later the cruise ship tours were getting there with massive amounts of people. Everyone that we talked to afterwards said that there were just too many people.
If you just looking for a tour to show you the island than just go with the ships tour. Have fun with whatever you decide.

Two things to do in Grand Cayman:
If you are a diver, contact one of the dive operatores such as Sunset House for terrific wall and shore dives and for a lot of fun go to Stingray City. There will be shore excursions offered by the cruise line of course, but you might save a few dollars arranging your own trips. Do not forget to take your dive log if you are a diver and make sure that it is up to date. Cruiseman

We were on the Sensation 2 1/2 years ago. Took a tour with stops at the Rum Factory, Pirate Cave, Plantation, and something else. The Rum Factory was a nice stop, but really nothing to see. The Pirate Cave had plastic stand-up pirates in it. Waste of money. The Plantation was the most interesting part. However, we were on a hot bus traveling on this beautiful island with older passengers who could not stop. This is the only ship excursion I've ever regretted. It this sounds like what you're considering ... DON'T DO IT!

2000 Cruise on Norwegian we decided to just explore the island ourselves...MISTAKE at this location! We hopped in a taxi and were dragged out by police because the taxi was not following rules or something...scary confrontation we witnessed. So we got a "legal" taxi and it cost ALOT to get to seven mile....paid $3 pp to get on the beach and maybe use the restroom...walked a mile or so to a cute beach bar and spent $25 on beers for four! We walked the two miles back to the docks and regretted most of the day. Beautiful yes, but I wouldn't do it like that again. Go for stingrays or pay for a nice air conditioned bus tour maybe...don't go on your own.

We went to the Grand Cayman Island in April 2001, This is a great place to book your own tour with on one of the companies on the island like Captain Marvin's or Captain Bryan's. We took Captain Bryan's. For less than the ship's tour they took us our on a 40ft catamaran. They took us to Stingray city and had a tour guide get our in the water with us and provide instruction for feeding the sting rays. He also held the sting ray and talk about the barb and the differences between male and female. Then they took us to the "aquarium" and the guide feed the fish so we could see them and snorkel with him. Then we wen t to the reef where the guide feel two moray eels and a nerf shark. We were able to pet the shark. It was very relaxed and well planned. It was much better than the crowded boat tour from the ship and we were able to see more.
