Only been there last year at Christmas on the Magica. We went to La Romana, actually ported in Isla Catalina. It was expensive, at least for the tourists. A couple at our dinner table went to La Romana, they said it was interesting but very industrial and dirty. The water was beautiful, the snorkeling was really good, the people were extremely friendly and most spoke at least 3 languages. The tour operator we had spoke Italian, Spanish, French and English, and we had no trouble understanding her English. Can't tell you any more than that. Best wishes on your new endeavor!

I went to Punta Cana (Bavaro Beach to be specific) in March 2005. Had a GREAT time at the resort, but like any of these islands, once you go outside the resort it's a little sketchy. The beach was BEAUTIFUL and the main language was Spanish.

Hey Raffles, Where in the D.R. are you moving?

I lived there for 5 months. Sosua and Puerta Plata on the north side are great. Spanish is the language. The capital is easy to get around.
Let me know, (but give me a few hours chance to respond)

Moving to Cabarete, right by Plata if I remember right. Did you leave in an apt.? Why were you there?

I was there for language aquisition immersion for my work in Puerto Rico. The north coast is more European because it was settled by the Swiss and Germans. We lived in a home of some Americans who were state-side for about the amount of time we needed to be there.

I assume it's for your job, what will you do there?

raffles 03-16-2007 06:23 PM

No job...just going to go. We should talk
