Jamaica shore excursions

From the port can we take a cab to mystic mountain? How far away is it and about how much money? Is there a particular taxi company we should try to stay with?
We want to go there on our own and buy tickets to do the sky explorer/chairlift. Does it cost more if you go in the infinity pool? We also want to do the Jamaican Bobsled is it nearby or do we need to taxi to another location?

I really don't advise doing Ocho Rios on your own. There are some independent tour companies that offer a package starting at $54 each. Good luck, just make sure you stay in a group.

Is it that dangerous if we take a cab from the port to Mystic Mountain and back? I heard it's only a 5 - 10 minute ride?

Sorry nobody has responded since your post. From what I have read, your safest bet is to do an organized excursion in Jamaica, either through the ship or through another vendor. For me personally, in October, I'm using Shoretrips, which most people on this board like.

Sorry I didn't come back here sooner, it got really crazy at work. Anyway, I can't say that it is or is not that dangerous. What I can say is that there were teams that worked together in Ocho Rios. The driver would take their fare to an alley/street and his friends would mug the occupants. That being said, they have tried to clean that up. If you get a certified cab driver, you probably would not have any problems. Still, though, I highly recommend an organized tour or group. Shoretrips is a good one and excursions through the ship. The ship has checked out the vendors. I'm not saying it's a 100% guarantee that they're good, but it's better than not knowing the vendors at all.
