Arriving in San Juan at 5 pm. what to do?

We are going on Carnival Truimph dec/03 and will arrive in San Juan at 5 pm til 12 pm. What is there to do at that time? From reading other info, there will be many things that will be closed at this hour. We are also traveling w/kids. Will it be better just to stay on the boat?

That's an odd stopover. Huh.

Does the ship have a child-care center, or are the kids old enough to stay out of major trouble onboard by themselves? Maybe this is a good opportunity for the adults to jump off the ship and find a local restaurant for an authentic meal.

Now, finding an authentic yet reputable restaurant, well, that's a whole 'nother thread.

Had this type of stop on the Century, other than the tours, you could stroll around town, however, in my opinion, a stop that late just doesn't do justice to any locale. I love San Juan.
