Montego Bay, LOVED IT!! Ocho Rios????

My last cruise on the Conguest we went to MoBay. I just loved that experience, but some of our party were sick and had to miss it. Now that we are going back, this time Oco Rios, do we have to be worried about this port? We just went shopping and to margaritaville. We were taken to a shopping place that was safe to walk around. They had police standing everywhere to keep the bad ones at bay. Does Ocho Rios have the same? We will have lots of children ranging in ages from three to thirteen. Thanks for the imput.

We have gone to both ports but we did excursions from both ports so didn't see much of the port itself but it is probably best as there is quite alot of crime in Jamaica and most people would recommend you do something organised rather than venture out on your own. We did the Dunns River Falls tour which we loved and it is quite close to Ochos Rios port. When we did this tour from Ochos Rios we also did Dolphin Cove for the other 1/2 day, this was good and I had the best Jerk chicken I have ever tasted! When we did the Falls from Mo Bay we had a 2 hour bus ride each way, and then all excursion were late back to the ship due to road works and heavy traffic. Good job we booked through RCL!
I think there are shopping excursions as well if that is your sort of thing. My parents went to a banana plantation and rum distillery (think it was called Jamaica highlights tour)which they enjoyed so there is quite alot of variety.

In Ocho Rios they have an interesting cultural show at 11:00 AM at the Island Shopping center. (There's also a Margaritaville). It's to the left exiting the port about a 8 minute walk & we didn't get bothered by anyone along the way. There were a few local shops & they asked if we were interested but we just keep on walking.

You might want to check into Dunn's River Falls. It's a ball to climb as long as the children aren't too young. The 3 year old would probably have to walk along the side with an adult, but I'd say from 7-8 on up would be ok. It's a really fun excursion. Just stay in a group and in the tourist areas and you'll be ok. As RichC stated, just keep walking when they offer their services.
