Interesting move by Jamaica. They will start taxing all visitors on May 1st, 2005. Visitors arriving by cruise ship will be taxed $2 and those arriving by any other means will be taxed $10. It is unclear whether the cruise line will pay for those debarking, or the visitors themselves will have to pay individually.

Does anyone know?

We are cruising to Jamaica in January 2006. I think by then we will learn if this new tax is extracted from the tourists individually or from the cruise line/air line which conveys the tourist...

I was there at the end of May and did not get charged anything. Carnival must include that fee.

Agree, what Vice said, about avoiding Jamaica.

We hated it and the next time we stay on the ship, no drug-dealers, no other rare things offering to you, no tax to get more money from the "rich" tourists.
