What to do in Calica?

I will be traveling to Calica at the end of August and was wondering what people would suggest doing there. I've heard good and bad things about Xcaret and I'm not sure what to choose from. I would like to spend the least money as possible but still have a great time. Being a senior in college I dont have much money to spend on the "extras". I know many people would suggest shopping but I'd rather be outside. Opinions please?

There is great shopping in Playa del Carmen and it is only three miles away. Equally close is X-caret. That would be my choice. Lots to do and lots to see. They even have a website that you can visit to purchase online tickets at a discount. It is a very eco-friendly park with plenty to keep you occupied. If you are more interested in history, the Mayan ruins of Tulum are only a 30 minute drive away.
