The is a spa called "Screws Spa" offering natural hot springs...cost $10.00 pp.
But, we have been quoted (for 4 of us) from our ship, taxi at $15.00 to $20.00 per person? Seems a bit much (don't you think?) so...can anyone "confirm" taxi rates on this island and has anyone ever been to the this spa?

Hi Jab70, we did not go to that spa. We went to Champagne Reef Beach, Emerald Pool, and Trafalga Falls. The cab driver charged is $20/pp. The fare you have been quoted sounds about correct, you might be able to negotiate with one of the cab drivers when you get off the ship, but that sounds about right.

Jab70 - We were in Dominica in Jan. 08 and the rate you have been quoted is almost exactly what we paid with another couple for the taxi. Dominica is a very rugged insland with very steep terrain. The last remaining tribe of the Carib Indians has a very interesting reservation there!

There is a very good Medical School in the Capital of Rouseau and the shopping can be very good and fun! The locals are wonderful and great bargains can be found in perfumes.

Dominica was an island that was missed by Columbus in his voyages to the New World. It is frequently shrouded in mist and has a substatial annual rainfall! Pack some disposable rain ponchos!

Bon Voyage,

BillyBuzzy

Thank you for the info. IMHO it's still a bit rich? Not sure about BillyBuzzy but at least Penny had a tour of sorts w/more than one stop? Suppose one has to go w/the flow...whatever....and will find out when we get there.

Jab70,

If you are going from the cruise ship terminal directly to Screw's Spa and back to the terminal, with no other stops, then $20 is too much. You can actually do the Trafalgar Falls, Screw's Spa, Botanical Gardens and Mourne Bruce for $25 per person.

Jab70 - There is an excellent article in the current edition (Nov/Dec 08) of "Cruise Travel" Magazine regarding Dominica. If you are unable to locate the Mag on your newsstand you can reach them via the internet using the Mag's title. It is well worth reading!

Bon Voyage,

BillyBuzzy
