We are thinking about going deep sea fishing in St. Maarten. Good idea/bad idea? Any advice, cruise package vs. private charter (Shore Trips) etc. We will be sailing Mariner and will be in St. Maarten March 23rd. Thanks

Don't book the escursion available from Royal Caribbean cruise line -- the captain was totally inexperienced and lived in New Jersey!
He had no idea where or how to catch fish. And also had the boat out in rough seas which he was not capable of navigating. You'd do much better to find a local charter that been established if you really enjoy deep sea fishing as my husband does

Thanks Debbym, I appreciate your comments.I'll take your advice (out cruise line is offering this tour for $243.00 per person which is out of my price range anyway

If you go deep sea fishing, what will you do with the fish?. You are not allowed to take the fish on board with you. Spend big bucks and not keep the fish to me is not what I call a waist of time & money. I live in SW Florida and I love to fish. What i catch I eat. Therefore game fishing is idiotic to me.

My wife is an avid fisherperson. She catches and releases. Does not seam idiotic to me. Its a sport to her and to others like her!
