Car Rental in St. Maarten

Any recommendations for a car rental agency in St. Maarten near the pier.

The traffic is so horrible when the cruise ships are in that it is not worth it. And there is no parking anywhere near town. Reconsider this. If you are a daredevel maybe a motorscooter. When you leave the pier area turn left toward town and there are 2 or 3 rental sites.

I totally disagree. If you are only going into Phillipsburg, take the water taxi. If you do a web search you can find the car rental agencies. Some have pickup and drop off at the pier. Get one of those. Touring the island is really nice (we have done it a couple times). See Orient Beach, Marigot, and Simpson Bay is also nice. Just drive around the island and shoot off onto some of the roads and you'll find some nice quite coves and beaches. Marigot is the capital of the French Side and nice to visit. Orient Beach is the beautiful (swimsuit optional) beach and definitely a stop. Simpson Bay is where the airport is and a nice beach. If you time it right you can stand 50ft under a landing 747! If you want to go to Phillipsburg you can park just outside town and walk in, or return the car and take the water taxi. But odds are you won't have much time to see Phillipsburg.
