I have a 7 year old daughter and want to go to Orient Beach while in St. Martin. I know one area is nude and I heard that even at the other end there is some nudity. Is there a designated area that is family oriently and prohbits nudity. I just don't want to subject my 7 year old to that and want to know before I book the excursion. Thanks, Cathy
Here is some info I found on the internet from a hotel in San Martin:
"The major attraction of Orient Bay is of course the clothing optional beach and the worldīs famous Club Orient, the islandīs only naturist resort at the southern end of the beach.
Clothing is optional in front of the Orient Club, though the nude beach there is open to the public. The northern end of the beach, near the hotels, has more clothing, but in fact you may encounter nude sunbathers anywhere. The highest concentration of naked people however is at Club Orient."
So I guess maybe you should try another part of the island...
The nude sunbathers walk up and down the beach, most of them should not be nude. Moho beach is another option, and there is a nice beach very close to where you dock.
We took our kids there and really didn't get exposed to too much. Depends on what you consider too much! It was a high surf day and we were so busy playing in the water we weren't really people watching . . .
Having said that of the few people we did see nude all would have improved their appearance by covering up some!

Maho beach was real neat for the day. Although the beach isn't very big & drops off suddenly the big attraction were the planes landing & taking off. Not many people have had the experience of a Airbus or 747 flying 300 feet overhead.

LOL...the funniest thing about Orient Beach is a whole lot of people you would rather NOT see nude.
On the serious side, choose another beach if you'd prefer not to have your children exposed to the exposure. They have their own section, but are free to parade up and down and the beach, and THEY do.

We were on Orient Beach near Christmas and did not find people parading up and down the beach. The kids and I walked the other way (husband checked it out, not very interesting, but then that is what naturist is --relaxed, not intended to be sexy!)
We swam a lot, read, sunned and were not bothered by any sights that we didn't want to see.
I agree with the previous post about Maho Beach. It has never disappointed me. Just be careful not to stand behind a jet that is powering up to take off or you might find yourself as nekkid as the people on Orient.
I went to Orient Beach on my cruise in Nov. of 2006. I did not see any nudity until I crossed a very clear warning sign located at the southern end of the beach. It clearly warned you that you may encounter nude sunbathers beyond that point and that photos or video recording is not allowed.
And just like Penny3333 said, most, if not all the people that were nude, should not have been. All the people I saw nude that day must have at least been 65 years old or older and/or overweight.
