We are doing the Trunk Bay excursion in the afternoon but are looking for something in the morning on St Thomas. Which beaches can you go to independently? I have heard about Saphire, Coki, Morningstar and Magen's Bay. Can you get to them easily by cab? We need to be back for a 1:00 departure for Trunk Bay so have from 9-12 to do a beach by ourselves. Thanks in advance!
While you can actually get to all the beaches via taxi, the closest and most easily accessible to the Havensight Cruise Terminal is Morningstar Beach. It is located by Frenchman's Reef and can be seen as you enter the harbor. Based on your limited time - that would be my suggestion.

Hi....along this same line, has anyone had expierience with some of the "local" tour operators, such as Godfrey Tours, who seem to offer pretty good prices for transportation to the beaches and downtown in St. Thomas....
Luffing,
While I have not used Godfrey Tours myself, I have cruised with people that did and spoke highly of the experience.
Sonny, while I totally agree that a morning snorkel at Coki would be great fun - I am always hesitant to go to Coki when time is an issue. On 3 of my 4 trips to Coki, the taxi got caught up in heavy traffic returning to the ship and it took us a long time to get back. Of course, that could just be my dumb luck.
Nancy, come to thing of it, we were held up in traffic on your December visit. The traffic can get bad from any beach because it occurs in the ship dock area.
Mornignstar beach is okay, not too far by cab, but the view from the beach is just water, no gorgeous islands in the distance to look at. We did have a wonderful time there though. They have a great open-air restaurant there on the beach that has hammock-chairs and we sat in them and swayed to the beat of the calypso sipping our rum drinks.... Ahhhh! Free beach access there, the cab shouldn't be too steep because it's close to the cruise ship terminal.
