Need to know where to go on St. Thomas. Please help ASAP..

My wife and I are taking a cruise that is leaving on March 20th via Mariner of the Seas and one stop is St. Thomas. Looking for place to go, see, etc on St. Thomas. Also, do you recommend taking the organized day trips or should we just grab a cab and go???? Please advise, and as you can see we are running out of time. Thanks a bunch to anyone that can offer some advice.....

Dont take a tour via the shore excoursion. In the harbour, near the vessels look for the taxi dispatcher. Try to find another couple or two and then take a private tour by an airconditioned taxi, not in these crazy open uncomfortable cars, over the island. We paid 20 $ for a 2 1/2 hour tour, stopping at many interesting places and getting informations from the taxidriver.
With a booked tour you pay double the price.
Back to the ship let them shop in the town, go for some nice shopping (good jewel prices) and take an open taxi (2-3 $ per person) back to the ship. We have done that also in St. Kitts and Barbados and never had problems.

I highly recommend Godfrey's tour. He will pick you up at the ship at either 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00 (your choice)take you downtown for shopping, then do a two hour tour of the island. You then choose a beach (Maggens, Coki or Saphire) to go to for two hours if you wish or he will bring you back to the ship.

All of this for $20.

If you are not into the shopping craze in St. Thomas you might want to take the ferry over to St. John. Rent a jeep and visit the different beaches there....its stunning and there are not the crowds at all like St. Thomas. If you stay on St. Thomas, Megans Bay is probably one of the nicest beaches. Have fun.
