Has anyone ever snorkeled at Champagne Beach in Dominica? If so, what is it like? Can you take a taxi from the pier to the beach, and if so, how much does it cost/how long of a ride is it? Can you rent snorkeling equipment at the beach, or do you have to book a shore excursion? Thanks!

Cortney, Champagne Beach is very nice for snorkeling. We actually booked a van taxi from the pier and went to different parts of the islands. My only suggestion is that the beach is not sand. It is rock, so it makes it very hard to walk on. We had to walk a few hundred feet to get to the snorkeling area with the bubbles. Once you get there, and in the water, it is a magnificent site. All of the bubbles floating to the top of the water from the gases below the surface. It actually feels like you are snorkeling in a glass of champagne. I feel it would be a better experience if you took a catamaran cruise to the reef. That way, you do not need to cross over the rocks on the beach. They are very, very hard to walk on. Hope this helps!

I would NOT recommend doing Champagne Beach from the beach, book a catamaran sail/snorkel. The snorkeling is probably the best snorkel I've done in the Caribbean. It is totally awesome, but do yourself a big favor and do it from a boat. We booked ours through Princess and it was an awesome experience. The first time we tried doing it on our own, the rocks hurt when you're trying to get in and out of the water. Best wishes!
