We've done both. The last time was the catamaran to Buck Island and it was great. We enjoy being able to sail. The cat was owned and operated by a private couple, it was clean and they were really great people. Trunk Bay is a great snorkel, calm and clear water, they have lockers, showers, and a place to buy snacks and souvineers (not cheap). The ferry was $6.00/pp and I can't remember how much entrance to the beach and the cab fare was, but Trunk Bay is pretty. If you like sailing, Buck Island is beautiful as well. Have a great trip.
