Hi - I'm escorting my parents on the Noordam out of NYC in early March on an 11 day Southern Caribbean cruise. Dad's 90 and Mom's 78 -- they don't move or get around too fast (no walkers or canes) and I'm planning on mostly air conditioned bus trips to see Tortola and am thinking about the island trip seeing the parrots and rain forest in Dominica. I am intrigued by the submarine excursion - thinking it may be exciting for them, but am worried it may be too much for them. Anybody been on this in Barbados? I don't want them to get scared --did you feel safe if you went on it and was the price worth it - $119 pp. Thanks!!!!
The Atlantis sub is probably my husband's favorite shore tour. You do have to get down a ladder-like gangway to board. But it is easy to move around the sub, decent seats and space. They will not be crowded or rushed, I don't think. The operators and you may have to assist them down and even if they are a little infirm I would think this would work--Unless someone is really obese or something and would have to be hoisted back out! I encouraged my parents to try this and they are in their 80s. If they still can climb at all (with assistance) this should work. It was the experience of a lifetime.

I have some pictures on my website from the Atlantis Sub in St Thomas if you want to get an idea of what to expect. It's second from the bottom in the list of cruise photos.
Thanks, Larry! That was so thoughtful of you to share.
I called the help line excursion 800 number at HAL this morning to find out more info on each excursion I was thinking about, but didn't find the lady very versed in anything. She was just reading from brochures and had to fumble to find them. She did say it was spacious inside which your picture shows clearly. I was really hoping they'd have people that actually had done some of the tours, but I didn't get the feeling she knew anything specific about any of them other than she wanted to book me. I didn't book thru her -- I'll do it online. Thanks again for the pics. T
Hi! I posted on this topic earlier and remember now that we recommended this to our minister and his family of 6. They booked directly through Atlantis. They have a website apparently--but Sandy called them on the phone and got all her questions answered, including how to get to the terminal. This may not be for you, you may still want to book through the ship, but at least you could ask the people who actually do the tour any additional questions.
