When we were in Hawaii, my husband found an Omega SeaMaster on the beach in Lahaina. Brought it home, cleaned it up and it was running perfectly - and in fact, still runs perfectly. The problem is having to get links to make the band fit (it was obviously owned by a 90 pound 20 year old swimsuit model!). In 2004 when it was found, the links were $35 apiece and I need at least 5; too expensive we said. Last time we check for links, the price went up to $70 per link..... I may never get to wear my watch. Although, it is less expensive than buying a new one . . . we're just too "thrifty"

I think selling watch bands for high end watches is a lucrative business. They know you need them and the price reflects it. I bought my wife a new Rolex for Christmas in 2007. She needed links added....it was almost $500 for them and I think it was four links.

I guess getting an entire Rolex watch band for $600 is a bargain. (My earlier quote of $699 was in error)

At those prices, you could have the watch genetically grafted on your wrist. Nothing surprises me anymore.

As a queen LOL, I have two watches, bought on cruises of course, one silver, one gold, to match my outfits. The gold is a Seiko I still get compliments on, it has a black face, and in 18 years I have replaced the battery twice. I bought it in Jamaica, checked the price at home, and found a plaza with 3 jewelers, I ran to each one twice, got 3 free beers and saved about 20% on a $300 watch, and no sales tax. The silver is a simple Anne Klein, one diamond, mother of pearl face, bought in Curacao on my AOS cruise, saw it, loved it, bought it. The stories of my inexpensive watches and the memories make them favorites. Now don't get me started on Rubies and St Maarten, that free beer thing at a jeweler is brilliant !
