I have heard of people getting cabs etc on their own at various stops - are US dollars typically accepted or is currency exchange needed? I will be going to Labadee, Jamacia, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman...Thanks!

I've used US in every spot I've been to in the Caribbean. In Grand Cayman I got some change in Grand Cayman dollars when I went to the post office but otherwise they will trade in US all the way. You should not have an issue.

Also, you can always use your Credit card at those places that accept them.

Aj,
US currency is widely accepted in all of those ports. Labadee is RC's private island and the vendors at the craft market will quote everything in US dollars. Actually most of the islands will quote you a price in US currency. Mexican pesos are the official currency in Cozumel and the exchange rate is about 10 pesos to every dollar and the Jamaican Dollar = approximately 62 cents US. I am not sure of the rate between Cayman dollars and US, but everything is quoted in US currency so it really doesn't make any difference.

I like to collect foreign currency...any suggestions on how I can do this in Jamaica Cayman & Cozumel?

I would like to get at least one each of the coins and at least the smallest paper money

Definitely bring 50-100 bucks in 1's. That way you can tip porters, cab drivers, etc., and you can also bargain more effectively with the merchants that way. I read that tip before I left and it was the best thing I did. I also brought 4 50's for steward tips.

Cozumel, Progreso, Belize, Cayman, Honduras (Roatan), St. Thomas, St. Maarten, St. Croix- all took USD.

The easiest way to get foreign currency is to buy something small- they will almost always give local change.
