costa maya things to do

we are going dune buggying...what else should we do...any suggestions...we are 30-35 adults.

Costa Maya is a port that was built by the cruise lines as a stopping point for taking tours of the ruins. If that's not your thing, you an just stay at the port, as it is a destination in itself - a huge pool, with swim-up bar, also a number of bars, restaurants and shopping. Not much of a beach - but a great party place. If you are looking for the real Costa Maya - rent a golf cart and go to Mahahual (the tiny fishing village that was once the only thing here) - hang out at the beach, enjoy fresh shrimp and $1 Cervezas.

We were in Costa Maya and did the Chacchoben Ruins.The ride from the pier was about an hour drive but the guide was very informative and humorous on the way there.This excursion is definitely worth doing.It's amazing how something that was erected in 300 A.D. is still standing.This is a must do.Have pics to share if you are interested.

I found Costa Maya to be the worst port of call that I have ever visited. If you like $4 cokes and $6 beer this pre-fab place is for you. Shopping was expensive and the vendors would not haggle much. Expect to pay %50 more for items vs Cozumel. The cruise lines should be ashamed for stopping here.

Does anyone know how far to Kohunlich ruins from the pier?

The distance from Costa Maya to Kohunlich is approximately 175 km.

There are some good tours, we did the beach horseback riding and the beach break (good deal only $25 for all drinks!) I drank pina coladas all day and even a shot or two of tequila (when in Mexico!!!)

Costa Maya Beach Breakthe place is right in town and near to everything. They had really nice lobster too.
